Chris Waller is quietly confident about Jade Marauder’s chances in the 2012 Golden Slipper this Saturday April 7, 2012.
Waller is trying not to get too vocal about Jade Marauder after suffering severe disappointment just seconds before last year’s Golden Slipper.
Fats And Sexy was scratched before the race after rearing up when a piece of outside running rail came off and spooked her.
“We got into the race last year but (Fast and Sexy) was scratched at the barrier one minute before the race,” he said.
“So I don’t want to say anything too soon.”
Waller believes Jade Marauder is in with a definite chance come this Saturday’s $3.5 million Slipper.
“She had a very promising run three weeks ago coming from last in a field of Slipper hopefuls and beat them all with a bit in hand,” he said.
The Fastnet Rock filly has won two of her four race starts, with her most recent coming in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes at Royal Randwick.
The two-year-old was purchased for $500,000 from the 2011 Australian Easter Yearling Sale as has so far won more than $140,000 in prize money.
Jade Marauder will have to contend with the outside barrier of 16 in the 2012 Golden Slipper and will be ridden by jockey Glyn Schofield.
