Snitzerland Given Blinkers For Golden Slipper 2012 Run

April 4th, 2012

Snitzerland will be sporting blinkers for the first time in the 2012 Golden Slipper this Saturday April 7, 2012.

The two-year-old filly wore the blinkers during her early morning trackwork today and appeared to excel.

Snitzerland posted a time of 22.6 seconds for her last 400 metres, proving to trainer Gerald Ryan that a gear change is warranted for this Saturday’s 2012 Golden Slipper.

Jockey Corey Brown, who will ride Snitzerland in the 212 Golden Slipper, was impressed with the difference the blinkers made to her performance.

“Sometimes horses can get really fired up when you put the blinkers on them,” Brown said.

“She was on her toes a little bit out the back but once she got into her gallop she was great.”

Snitzerland finished a disappointing fourth in her last start behind Samaready in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes after winning her two previous race starts.

Ryan believes the Snitzel filly is continuing to improve and will be at her best yet for the 2012 Golden Slipper.

“She pulled up big off her last run and I said all the time she was going to improve off it and she has,” Ryan said.

“She’s getting more muscles and stronger as she goes along. She looks terrific.”

Snitzerland has won two of her four race starts and has earned more than $250,000 in prize money.
