The barrier draw has been conducted for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper, which will take place as the feature race at Rosehill racecourse this Saturday April 7, 2012.
Race favourite Samaready drew wider than hoped and will jump from gate 11 in the 2012 Golden Slipper.
Trainer Mick Price was still confident of Samaready’s chances after the barrier draw took place.
“As long as she’s at the top of the straight waiting for a run, I think that’s a pretty good way to do it,” Price said.
Price also spoke of his relief over the withdrawal of Samaready’s biggest competitor, All Too Hard.
“I said thank you Nathan (Tinkler),” joked Price.
“It would have been an interesting race with him in it.”
Chris Waller will be attempting to win his first Golden Slipper Stakes title with Jade Marauder.
The Fastnet Rock filly drew the widest gate of 16 in the 2012 Golden Slipper barrier draw.
Waller was philosophical about the wide draw.
“It’s certainly the Olympic games of horse racing in terms of the young horses,” Waller said.
“There are plenty of good ones to follow.
“Our filly came from last last start to win, admittedly against a weaker field.
“Every horse will need some luck and we just need a little bit extra.”
Jockey Jim Cassidy will ride John O’Shea’s Faustus in the 2012 Golden Slipper.
The More Than Ready colt drew barrier 13 for the race, giving Cassidy a tough task in the race.
“It’s every jockey’s dream to ride in a Golden Slipper,” Cassidy said.
“I like to approach them as just another day.
“My task is not going to be that easy.
But you’ve got to be in it to win it.
“The main thing is a trouble free run.”
Cassidy believes Faustus is in with a winning chance for this Saturday’s 2012 Golden Slipper.
“I couldn’t expect the colt to work any better than he did this morning,” he said.
Live chance Pierro drew the inside gate of one, while No Looking Back drew perfectly in barrier three and Snitzerland in seven.
