The Myer Tulloch stakes has been claimed by Fast Clip at Rosehill Gardens giving Gai Waterhouse her first win of the day.
He grabbed the perfect position from the jump sitting one back on the rails with the early pace set by Shootoff and Space Station.
Surprisingly Retrieve was settled mid field in an experiment by connections to test out the closing ability of the odds on favourite.
Blackie may as well have pulled up halfway into the trip with a horrible ride leaving her three wide without cover in windy conditions after jumping from gate 6.
As they rounded the turn Shootoff had snatched the leave and was running home strongly with I Think I Do pushing through for a run and Retrieve further back on the inside.
Has they made their way through the final 400m Fast Clip has cruised into the lead with I Think I Do performing well but never really challenging for the win.
That’s how it stayed as they hit the line with Fast Clip winning comfortably from I Think I Do and a gallant Shootoff third.
Retrieve will be back at the front of the field in his next race after today’s experiment flopped and Blackie could have a rider change after he cost her any chance in the race.
Take nothing away from Fast Clip though who’s recent record is looking very healthy and he should be a chance in the Darby later on in the season.
That’s if he runs though with Gai Waterhouse a chance at spelling him for a rejuvenated Spring assault.
Nash Rawiller performed brilliantly though and says he would love a chance to ride him in a Group 1 after his performance surprised him today.
“We thought going into the race there was a possibility he was vulnerable but he relaxed beautifully and showed a really good turn of foot,” Rawiller said.
In relation to convincing Waterhouse to keep Fast Clip’s current campaign alive for another few weeks he said, “that’s something we’ll need to discuss later”.
