Inglis Classic A Must Watch For Golden Slipper 2012

We’ll get another read of form for the 2012 Golden Slipper this weekend when the 2012 Inglis Classic runs at Rosehill Gardens. Golden Slipper

The Golden Slipper has a style and passion unique from any other race day in the world. The event drips with glamour and class hosted on one of the most pristine racetracks in existence, Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens. It could be the coveted Golden Slipper trophy itself which generates an almost mystical atmosphere around the arena, stretching right through from the horses and jockeys to the dazzling fashions on the field.

The Golden Slipper is the richest race for two-year-olds you will find anywhere on the planet with the prize pool  worth  a staggering $3.5 million. It is the show piece event on Golden Slipper day which features an incredible five Group one events. This multitude of top level racing all concentrated into a single event has made Golden Slipper day the single richest day of racing seen in Australia. It’s not surprising then that the atmosphere around the ground is beyond electric with tens of thousands of people bursting through the gates every year. Golden Slipper Day has grown to become a fundamental part of Sydney culture and the focal point of one of the biggest parties New South Wales has to offer.

The Golden Slipper is run over 1200m with an average of more than 2000 nominations received from trainers searching for their shot at history.  The event is held on the first Saturday in April and is the climax to the Sydney Racing Carnival.  The Melbourne Cup would be considered the most recognized race in Australia but the Golden Slipper is not too far behind.

The first Golden Slipper took place in 1957 and was won by Todman. Interestingly, Todman was sired by Star Kingdom who went on to sire the next four winners of the Golden Slipper. In fact those bloodlines can still be traced to many modern winners.

The most prolific trainer of Golden Slipper winners is T.J Smith (6), while the top jockeys are Ron Quinton and Shane Dye (4)
